Pandinus属,即帝王/惧蝎家族的蝎子,其分布方式从非洲西部的塞内加尔和冈比亚横跨整个西非大湾区海岸和中非直至东非,甚至在中东也门也发现有2种(如下图所示)。西非的帝王家族成员分布较为单一,往往一个地理大区只有一个品种,它们基本上都是又大又黑,而东非则有超过二十种互有交集的小型品种,中非的品种非常目前稀少且很可能存在不止一种未被发现的新品种。
